The Art of Soul Winning

by Taffi Dollar
Do you remember how you came to Christ? Everyone has a different story about how he or she was led to the Lord, but regardless of what the story is, it always involves people. God uses others to spread the Gospel message, in order for people to become born again. He depends on us to share the truth about Jesus Christ with others because we are His hands in the earth. When you know and understand what Jesus has done for you, sharing Him with others not only becomes something you look forward to doing, it is also something you have to do.

Soul winning is sharing the Gospel message with people in order to win them to Christ. It is not something that is optional for the Believer; it is a mandate from Jesus Himself. In Mark 16:15, Jesus commissioned His disciples toGo ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” We should take Jesus’ words very seriously, and not ignore this important scripture. He says to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to everyone! One way to win souls on a mass level is to financially support ministries that are preaching the Gospel on a global scale. In addition to our own personal efforts to reach those in our immediate circle of family and friends, we can make an even greater impact by partnering with ministers of the Gospel all over the world.

There are many different ways to win souls; the key is to be led by the Holy Spirit in every encounter you have with someone who does not know Jesus. We must always remember that it is important not to beat people up with the Bible, but to simply share the love of God and explain to them what Jesus has done for them.

God will often put us in positions to minister the Gospel through what I call “situational soul winning.” Sometimes casual conversations with our friends and co-workers can provide openings for us to talk about God with them. We may find ourselves in the grocery store, on an airplane, or at a restaurant and have the opportunity to share Jesus with people. We should always remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, in order to speak the right words at the right time. God knows exactly who is ready to receive Him.

Sometimes Christians feel intimidated by the thought of telling people about Jesus, especially during a time when Christianity is tremendously frowned upon by the world. We can become fearful of people’s reactions to our talking about Jesus, or the persecution that may be directed at us for taking a stand for Christ. However, we must never be moved from Jesus’ instructions because of these things. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. When we truly have a revelation of what Jesus has saved us from, we know that the only way for people to escape the judgment of God, and an eternity in hell, is to receive Jesus Christ. He is the only way to the Father. Withholding this vital truth from people is not walking in love toward others.

Soul winning is the heartbeat of God. Proverbs 11:30 says the person who wins souls is wise. It is a mark of true Christianity to evangelize the world and share the Good News with others. God will honor those who are committed to His cause and are willing to share Jesus, even in the face of opposition. In addition, we should continuously pray for those who don’t know the Lord and release our faith for laborers to cross paths with them. Our prayers, coupled with our willingness to minister salvation to people, will ensure one of the greatest harvest of souls this world has ever seen. Will you answer the call?

How Do We Spread the Gospel?

Biblical Authority Devotional: Authority of the Spirit, Part 8

by Jeremy Ham, AiG–U.S.

To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into. (1 Peter 1:12)
Today’s big question: how do we spread the gospel?

As believers, one of our primary goals should be to spread the gospel everywhere we go. Jesus said the following to his disciples:
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:18–20)
This is known as the “Great Commission,” which is one of the final commands Jesus gave to His disciples. A disciple is someone that follows another’s precepts or instructions. In this case, a disciple is a follower of Christ.
In the Greek, “preached the gospel” basically means to bring the good news. As disciples of Christ, we should follow this command of Jesus and spread the good news of Jesus with the goal of making “disciples of all the nations.
However, we do not need to just rely on ourselves while spreading the gospel. God’s Word states that we are to spread the gospel “by the Holy Spirit”—who dwells within us. The first epistle to the Thessalonians also touches on this subject:
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake” (1 Thessalonians 1:5).
The Holy Spirit will help us speak the proper words as we spread the truth of God’s Word (Luke 12:12), but we must focus on prayerfully relying on the Spirit rather than ourselves. God has given us the Spirit “of power and of love and of a sound mind,” and as a result, we should boldly proclaim the message of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 1:7–8). We do not necessarily need to travel a thousand miles to spread the gospel; we can start right where we are with our family and friends.

Today’s big idea: believers spread the gospel by the Holy Spirit.
What to pray: ask God to help you be a good witness in everything you do.
